Publication Ethics
The Pi International Journal of Mathematical Sciences is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. This ethics statement outlines the responsibilities and expectations of all parties involved in the publication process, including editors, authors, reviewers, and the publisher. We adhere to the guidelines and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Duties of Editors
- Fair Evaluation: Manuscripts shall be evaluated based on their academic merit (originality, clarity, validity, and relevance to the scope of the journal), without regard to the authors’ race, gender, institutional affiliation, nationality, or political beliefs.
- Confidentiality: Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, or the publisher.
- Conflicts of Interest: Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
- Publication Decisions: Editors are responsible for the final decision on whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected, based on the quality of the work and the reviewers’ comments.
Duties of Authors
- Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cited. Plagiarism in any form constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
- Multiple Submissions: Authors should not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.
- Authorship: All individuals who have made significant contributions to the work should be listed as authors. All listed authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
- Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors must cite publications that have influenced their work.
- Errors in Published Work: If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate in correcting the paper.
Duties of Reviewers
- Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share or discuss the contents with others.
- Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
- Timeliness: Reviewers should respond promptly and complete reviews within the agreed timeframe. If unable to do so, they should inform the editor.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any suspicion of plagiarism or unethical behavior must be reported to the editor.
- Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
Publisher’s Responsibilities
- Integrity of the Academic Record: The publisher ensures the permanent availability and preservation of scholarly research and strives to guarantee the integrity of the academic record.
- Support for Ethical Practices: The publisher is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are based solely on academic criteria and will provide necessary support to the editorial board in investigating ethical complaints.
Handling of Misconduct
The journal will take all allegations of misconduct seriously. Where ethical concerns arise, the editorial board will investigate in accordance with COPE guidelines. Corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern will be published as needed to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
Consent and Copyright
Authors retain copyright of their work, granting the journal the right to publish and distribute it. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce any copyrighted material used in their manuscript.
